20 years Adjuvants & Formulations

Adjuvants & Formulations is celebrating 20 years. In May 2004, we published our first issue of Adjuvants & Formulations (then named “Adjuvant Newsletter”). In that time, it was rather new to publish an online magazine including a paid subscription as well.
For the 20th anniversary issue, we invited a few readers to share with us their view on the magazine. Read their opinions!

Biopesticides enter the nano age

Nanotechnology can improve the performance of biopesticides significantly. Nano-enabled biopesticides are therefore receiving a lot of attention. The focus thereby is mainly on nanoemulsions, nanocapsules and sophisticated nano-delivery systems. Adjuvants & Formulations provides insight into the rapidly developing field of nanobiopesticides. Tables with examples of recently published experimental biopesticidal nanoformulations, patent pending compositions and commercially available biopesticidal nanoformulations complete this feature.

Effective formulation of dsRNA

Chinese researchers have developed a formulation of double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) to kill Holotrichia parallela larvae (white grubs) by RNA interference. The dsRNA was loaded onto layered double hydroxide. Adjuvants & Formulations summarizes this study briefly.

More news in this issue:

  • Metal–organic framework-enabled sustainable agrotechnologies
  • Solid nanodispersion for promoting the bioactivity of abamectin
  • Design of functional cellulose-based nanopesticide delivery systems
  • Urea-loaded composite hydrogel reduces urea leaching
  • Current and future glyphosate use in European agriculture
  • The potential of seaweeds as a source for novel bioherbicide formulation/development

Patents in brief

Apyrase is a plasma membrane-bound enzyme that catalyses the hydrolysis of adenosine triphosphate to yield adenosine monophosphate and inorganic phosphate. Apyrase inhibitors can reverse the resistance of plants (weeds) to herbicides and potentiate fungicides. A university spin-off company is very active in the development of solid and liquid apyrase inhibitor formulations.

Adjuvants & Formulations also reports about activities of other companies as well as universities and presents an overview of recent patent publications with a brief summary.
